Support Unit

Support Unit

Auburn Public School has four classes for students with special needs, including an Autism class (Au), two Multi-Categorical (MC) classes and a class for students with a Mild Intellectual Disability (IM).

Students in the Support Unit work towards individual learning goals that cater to their specific academic, social, sensory, physcial and emotional needs, in their Personalised Learning and Support Plans. All students are integrated with mainstream classes for stage sport, scripture, assembly and other stage specific events. They also have the opportunity to integrate in a mainstream class to develop their social and academic needs.

Parents are invited to attend Personalised Learning and Support Plan meetings to discuss their child's learning goals with the classroom teachers, twice a year. Towards the end of the year, Review Meetings are held with the classroom teacher, school counsellor, Senior Psychologist Education and a Learning and Wellbeing Officer to discuss student progress in the Support Unit and whether parents are happy to continue their child's placement in the support class.
