Religion and ethics

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

At Auburn Public School, Special Religious Education (SRE) is delivered on Wednesdays for K-2 on even weeks and 3-6 odd weeks from 2:15 to 3:00pm.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the scripture coordinator, in writing.

During the time that SRE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful activities name activities (activities could include reading, private study or completing homework). The following SRE classes are offered at Auburn Public School:  

Islamic Scripture

Islamic SRE  is provided by the Islamic Council of NSW . More information about Islamic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the Islamic Council of NSW website http://www.isre.org.au/

Catholic Scripture

Catholic SRE teachers are authorised by the local parish and trained by the Diocese of the Catholic Church.

The Catholic SRE curriculum is approved by the Bishop of the Diocese in liaison with religious education experts.  Lessons include activities that are fun and inclusive for students, whilst also providing them the opportunity to critically explore in depth their faith and to pray and reflect.  For more information about the Catholic SRE curriculum go to https://www.sydneycatholic.org/

Catholic SRE teachers engage young people in hearing the Good News about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of our Christian life and culture

Protestant Scripture

Christian SRE is provided by SRE teachers from different Christian denominations and churches. The approved providers in this combined arrangement are (name approved providers). All Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by an approved provider.

The Christian SRE curriculum is authorised by Australian Christian Churches. The curriculum is based on Good News about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of our Christian life and culture and can be found at https://www.nswacc.org.au/  Christian SRE engages students in conversations as they question life, explore values and discover faith.

Write to the school if you wish to withdraw your child from special religious education, sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.
